Building Products of Canada Corp. (BP) is a manufacturer of roofing products, including asphalt shingles, shingle underlayments, and waterproofing membrane, for residential and commercial applications. BP is a privately held company and is headquartered in LaSalle, Quebec, Canada.
BP was founded in 1925 as Building Products Ltd. in 1925.Both Canadian companies were active in roofing and other home products. Imperial Oil purchased the company in 1964, and in 1987 the company was acquired by Emco Building Products Corp.The company was known as Emco Building Products Corp. until 2007, when the name was changed to Building Products of Canada Corp.
BP encourages qualified roofers to join the BP Certified Roofer program. Membership includes access to a variety of tools, sales and promotional items, plus benefits such as extended warranties, promotional specials and unique internet services. Over time, BP Certified Roofers will have access to gold and platinum levels which include additional benefits.
BP shingles feature Weather-Tite technology with two bands of high-tack adhesive, available in a wide selection of colors. BP’s line of shingles includes the Manoir, with a unique sculpted slate look; the Everest 42, a double-layer laminate shingle with larger tabs and 3-dimensional shadow bands; the Mystique 42, with oversized tabs and 3-dimensional shadow bands; the Yukon SB, a heavyweight fiberglass 3-tab shingle; and the 3-tab Dakota.
BP is aiming for zero waste at two of its facilities, in LaSalle and Edmonton. The company has agreements with manufacturers to recycle shingles into paving asphalt and for fuel in cement plants. The Edmonton plant also serves as a recycling drop off site. The company is also a member of the Canadian Green Building Council.
BP’s warranty varies according to shingle type. The warranty period ranges from 25 years for the Dakota to lifetime for the Manoir, Everest 42, and Mystique 42 (on single family homes). BP also provides wind damage and high wind damage warranties of 5 to 15 years.
